- Mount Říp (11 km)
One of the symbols of the Czech nation is the Czech forefather, who found a home for his people around Mount Říp 1500 years ago. The mountain rises 200 metres from the surrounding flat landscape. At the top of the monumental mountain today we find the Romanesque Rotunda of St. George, where you can watch a video projection with a historical theme.
The landscape around Mount Říp has been maintained for centuries and millennia as a religiously significant burial place for the social elite, also 5 thousand years before the supposed arrival of the Czech forefather. The fables thus seem to have deep roots in the prehistoric past.
A path (very rocky at the top) leads from the paid parking lot in the village of Rovná to the top.

- Doksany Monastery (5 km)
The first Premonstratensian monastery in Bohemia was founded in 1143 in Strahov and is still the main center of Premonstratensians in Bohemia. Only a year later (1144) the monastery in Doksany was founded. Other Premonstratensian monasteries in the Czech Republic include Teplá (founded 1193, still a huge area), Nová Říše (founded 1211) and Želivský monastery (founded 1139). After seven hundred years in 1782, the monastery in Doksany was abolished and the area continued to function as a castle and farm. After nationalization (1948), it was located on the premises of a state estate (agricultural enterprise) until 1991. Part of the premises has been repaired today and is once again used by the Premonstratensians, the other buildings owned by the state are heavily damaged and have been empty for decades.
A tour of the huge and richly decorated church also includes a tour of the Romanesque crypt under the church.
Free parking in front of the campus. In the summer, there is a sale of ice cream made from strawberries from a local farm.

The first written mention of Libochovice dates back to 1272. During the Hussite wars, when the estate belonged to the Zajíc family (the Zajíc family held important positions at Prague Castle), the town was burnt down by the Hussites. The nearby Házmburk castle was never conquered, on the contrary, it was used to store the crown jewels because of its quality.
In 1591 the town was granted the right to brew beer. To this day, the brewery and malt house (near the bus station) in the town is owned by a private individual who saved it from being demolished and replaced by a hypermarket. The brewery is not in operation. The peaceful town, warm climate and the Ohře River attracted many holidaymakers and the establishment of cottage settlements. In the summer months, famous celebrities or actors can be seen here. Next to the church you will find the birthplace of Josef Kopta, writer and journalist. Today his descendant is better known as an actor. The most famous native of Líbochovice is Jan Evengelista Purkyně, who was born in poor circumstances in the castle. He researched the egg, the functioning of the eye and other natural science questions. Today, the results of his work are no longer sufficiently mentioned.
The recreational potential of the Ohře River is also worth mentioning. It is pleasant to walk along the right bank in the direction of the flow up to the massive weir on the river. The large shallows in the river allow for warming of the water and pleasant summer swimming.

Year-round, we can recommend a small indoor swimming pool with sauna (in the basement of the retirement home)… www.firmy.cz/detail/2352125-plavecky-bazen-libochovice-libochovice.html
Parking in the square and next to the bus station is charged.
There are several excellent opportunities to eat well in Libochovice. Light meals, homemade desserts and daily menus are offered on the corner of the square in front of the castle in the „Café Della Porta„. Good cuisine and daily menus can be found in the buffet „Konírna“. At the roundabout by the bus station there is „Restaurant Pietro“ offering also Italian cuisine and pizza.
State Chateau Libochovice
The castle near the square is owned by the state. The first floor of the castle is open to the public, with an extensive collection of wall tapestries and objects from the original owners‘ travels in Asia and Africa. The chateau chapel located on the first floor is interesting. There are occasional tours of the cellars in the basement, where, among other things, the count’s brewery was operated. The castle park covers an area of over 60 hectares. Adjacent to the castle is the French part with flower beds lined with shaped boxwood with several fountain pools. In the English part, the last of the monumental trees survive. During the summer, palm trees from the greenhouses are brought out from under the chateau.

Peacocks in Libochovice
Peacocks are inseparable from Libochovice. Peacocks can be found freely not only in the castle park, but also on the town square or in the streets of the town. Peacocks have absolute priority over vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in Libochovice – be patient when walking through the town.
St. Lawrence Pilgrimage in Libochovice
On the weekend of 11 August every year, the square and adjacent streets are filled with stalls. The paved paths below the square on the banks of the Ohře River host a variety of rides and attractions. The Libochovice pilgrimage is one of the largest and most visited pilgrimages in Bohemia.

Sights and tourist destinations on hrady.cz - Házmburk – ruins of a medieval castle (18 km)
The mountain of volcanic origin rises 300 metres out of the flat landscape from Prague as the first mountain of the Bohemian Central Highlands. On most of the hills of the Central Highlands you will find the ruins of a castle. Hazmburk is one of the largest castles that has never been conquered. The magical place is shrouded in several legends, including treasure, a dragon, a white lady, a cellar apparition,… Although not much of the original building remains, the castle grounds are large and the square „white“ tower, which serves today as a lookout tower, offers an excellent view of the landscape. There is an entrance fee at the entrance to the grounds before the top of the hill. Access is possible from the village of Klapý, where there is a large paid parking lot, as well as from the village of Slatina (small free parking lot). Slatina is one of the still well-preserved villages of a rounded character – you will see this from Hazmburk.

Oldřich’s Oak is connected with Czech history and is one of the most famous memorial trees in the Czech Republic. The tree can be found below the village of Peruc by the road next to the spring where, according to legend, the Přemyslid Prince Oldřich (reigned 1012-1034) met Bozena, with whom he had an only son, Prince Břetislav I.
The tree survives after fires in 1993 and 1995. If it was the original tree from the legend, the age of the tree would be 1000 years.

- Boreč (21 km)
The Boreč hill on the edge of the Bohemian Central Highlands is an interesting geological feature. Inside the hill there are a number of fissures that function as a heat accumulator in summer and make the hill exceptional at the beginning of winter when it starts to freeze. Cold air is sucked into the cracks and when it warms up in the bowels of the hill, warm steam fumes from it. In the crevices of the hill you can sit at 20°C even in freezing weather.
In 1928, J. Šimr, a Velemín teacher and enthusiastic botanist, discovered a rare borecka plant in the moss in a rock crevice at the top of the hill, from which warm air was rising. A 2.5 km long nature trail, which begins and ends in the village of Režný Újezd, passes through the most interesting places. The best time to plan a trip to this attraction is at the beginning of winter, when it is at least minus 10 degrees and the air is dry.

The Czech Republic has an exceptional position in poppy cultivation. During the period of totalitarianism of the Communist Party and strong control, there was no danger of poppy cultivation being misused for opium production. The high level of poppy cultivation has survived the Czech Republic’s accession to the European Union. Poppy seed bread is more popular and more common in the Czech Republic than in other EU countries.

- Hops, hop plant
A typical Czech crop is hops grown for beer production. The Czech Republic has the highest beer consumption per person in the world (around 135 litres/person/year). Most of the hops are grown around the towns of Žatec and Louny (hop farms used to be along the Ohře River) and Úštěk.
Hop farms can be found near Polep outside Roudnice nad Labem or in Radovesice near Libochovice. The area of hop farms in the Czech Republic has fallen to 5 000 ha and only 100 farms are now producing hops. Hops ripen after 20 August and are grown in one place for about 20 years on 6 m high wire structures.
- Louny (35 km)
Louny has a beautiful historical centre on the banks of the Ohře River. Apart from the monuments, it is worth mentioning the set of houses „workers‘ colony“ about 2 km from the square of architect Jan Kotěra. Louny, together with Žatec, is the centre of hop growing, try the local beer.
